They’re now perfect for your training bra!
I love playing jokes. This year I spared my readers (you’re welcome!), but a few of my real-life friends weren’t so lucky.

Yesterday, three friends came over so I could make a batch of homemade Vegan Reese’s-style cups. I started by melting a frozen chocolate bar into mini liners — you can use any chocolate you like, from dark to milk-style vegan chocolate.

Instead of traditional peanut butter, I used my favorite cashew butter for the filling. The combination of smooth, slightly sweet cashew butter and a rich chocolate shell produced tiny cups that were absolutely delightful. The texture is creamy inside with a satisfying snap from the chocolate exterior.

The little treats were so good I jokingly called them “mini cashew-butter 32-C cups.” If you want a specific recipe, think of the classic peanut-butter-cup method: line mini muffin liners with melted chocolate, refrigerate briefly to set, add a spoonful of cashew butter, and top with more chocolate. Chill until completely firm.

Now for the prank. One of the mini cups was not filled with cashew butter at all. There’s mustard in my Reese’s! I swapped one filling for a dab of mustard and watched as my friend bit into it. She’s the kind of person who hates to offend anyone, so instead of spitting it out she kept chewing and tried to hide her reaction. After a few moments I confessed, and we all collapsed into laughter. It was one of those harmless April Fools moments that was funny in the moment and memorable afterward.
If you try a playful prank like this, keep it light and make sure it won’t upset anyone or cause an allergic reaction. Mustard is harmless for most people, but never swap ingredients if someone has a known allergy or sensitivity.
Tips for making homemade chocolate cups
- Use high-quality chocolate for the best flavor and a clean snap. Vegan or dairy options both work.
- Chill the chocolate-lined liners between steps so the layers stay distinct and neat.
- Adjust the filling: cashew butter, peanut butter, almond butter, or a chocolate-hazelnut spread all make great variations.
- For a firmer filling, mix nut butter with a little powdered sugar or coconut oil; for a softer center, use pure nut butter.
- Store the cups in the refrigerator in an airtight container, or freeze them for longer storage. Thaw briefly before serving for the best texture.
Did you play any April Fools jokes?
Or did someone pull one on you yesterday?
Normally I’m proud of how hard it is to trick me on April Fools’ Day, but yesterday I fell for several jokes online — everything from outrageous celebrity rumors to fake blogging announcements. It was oddly humbling and hilarious at the same time.
Oh, and in case you didn’t know: I’m pregnant.
